Residents are invited to join a Distinguished Guest and Professor Rymes over dinner in her faculty apartment, 100 McKean.  Each month, typically a Wednesday evening, from 6-7:30pm, a special guest, who has an interesting and inspiring career will join us for dinner and conversation about their life’s work.  RSVP to brymes@upenn.edu -- only 10 seats at the table each month!

October's guest is Gwendolyn DuBois Shaw, Associate Professor of American Art and affiliated faculty in Africana Studies, Cinema Studies, and Women and Gender Studies.  She received her PhD in art history from Stanford University and then held an appointment as an assistant professor of History of Art and African and African American Studies at Harvard University for five years before coming to the University of Pennsylvania in September 2005. Since coming to Penn she has directed the undergraduate major in Visual Studies and she has worked with students to organize exhibitions on Polynesian art, Brazilian art, African American art, and contemporary art. Her research investigates issues of race, gender, sexuality, and class in the art of the United States and the “New World”.
